Grassroots Advocacy

Why is grassroots advocacy important?

Our grassroots advocacy efforts enable our members to make a difference on the issues that matter to them. We have a contract lobbyist working for us in the state capitol, but our members who reach out to policymakers—whether online, on the phone, in person, or through the mail— play their own key role in bringing our legislative priorities to life.

How can you take action?

  • Contact (call or email) your legislator on issues that impact Florida forestry
  • Meet with your legislators in person before, during, and/or after the legislative session to discuss challenges that Florida forestry is facing and possible solutions
  •  Host policymakers at your Tree Farm or place of business for a tour or field day and/or
  • Submit an op-ed, letter to the editor, or article promoting policy priorities that would benefit Florida forestry to your local newspaper or other media.

By sharing your personal experiences, you make our message to policymakers stand out. Stories matter because they make the information more memorable. Lawmakers depend on constituents to let them know what is working, what is not, and what needs to be done next.. This helps our legislators work with us to create better legislation and improve sustainable forest management.
